Art is my therapy

Imagine, just for a minute, a world without art! (You may think “So what?” but please consider the impact that lack of graphics would have on your favorite video game.) Art stimulates different parts of our brains to make us laugh or leave us to riot, with a whole abundance of emotions in between. Art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. For some people, art is the entire reason they get out of bed in the morning. You could say “Art is something that makes us more thoughtful and well-rounded humans.”

On the other hand, art is such a large part of our everyday lives that we may hardly even stop to think about it. Look at the desk or table where you are, right this minute. Someone designed that. It is art. Your shoes are art. Your coffee cup is art. Things I’m sure you would never expect to be art are just in fact art!

You might even say “Art is subjective, and means something different to every single person on earth.” This is the true. What I find to be beautiful and a great piece of art…you might think is nothing but garbage. But like they say “one mans garbage is another mans treasure.” We all have our own taste and style it’s what makes us unique.

Art is people’s opinion, imagination, words, thoughts and so on…

Art can be used with a canvas and paint brushes, pencil and pad, a camera, hammer and nails, bobby pin and a hair brush, eye shadow palate and eyelid brush art can be ANYTHING you want it to be.
Art has been my escape route, my therapy. When I find myself with an overwhelming amount of emotion (happy, sad, excited, confused) I tend to get my little black spiral blank page notebook along with my charcoal pencil and start sketching the emotions I am feeling. Sometimes those sketches involve some words to show emotions as well.

When I was younger my mom and brother used to tease me for my baking. If they came home and they were to see flour, sugar, a whisk, or any other baking ingredient or tools they knew to run. Baking was a huge stress relief. I know it’s a rather strange relief but I guess it’s better than some other alternative options.

Next time your walking your dog or out with friends, stop and look around and appreciate the art that’s around you because it’s everywhere.

Bye Bye Mammoth…for now

Six months of being in eyelash tickling, shooting star like snowfalls I’m back in the always sunny beach zone of Southern California.

Though I will miss waking up every morning in the Sherwin Mountain tops, getting my morning coffee at Mammoths favorite coffee shop Looney Bean,  taking the last call trolley with friends after hitting the bars, being able to snowboard everyday with friends… I am excited to be back in my home turf where I will be able to witness some of my closest and best friends exchange two very sacred words…I DO.  So cheers to the start of a new chapter and here are a few of my favorite pictures I gathered while I was in Mammoth.

Doesn’t matter how bad the storm is there is always someone who still wants to learn to ride… :)

Back in my home turf where I was born!

So over the weekend I went to Redondo Beach California with my mom for her 3oth Class reunion. (YES I was her hot date) ;) . My mom graduated obviously 3o yrs ago if you read my header but we decided to make this trip and extend it a little and make it a trip “down memory Lane”. We drove passed the old house she grew up in by the beach, her old elementary school, High School, where I was born, Where she met my dad…We did it all and we had a blast. The best part of the entire trip was at her reunion I got to meet my Godfather Omar who I have not seen since I was a young girl. Here are some pics to share :)

Mammoth Blues, Booze, Palooza

So I’m back from and amazing week in Mammoth Lakes Ca…aka my future home! :) This last weekend was Mammoths “Blues, Booze Palooza” where they block off several acres in Mammoth Forest and set up this huge outdoor venue for a 3 day blues festival starting from Fri-Sunday. On Sat its Mammoths Blues and Booze day where if you bought your ticket far enough in advance (which of course I did) you get free beer tasting from over a 100 different brewing company’s. Sounds fun huh? Sure was!To end the night on Sat Las Lonely boys came out and performed….what an AMAZING performance they put on!

So not only did I go for the festival but I  also went for a second interview up there as a snowboard instructor. Interview was on Friday and lucky me I got asked to take the position on the spot! For those who don’t know snowboarding is a huge passion of mine and this job got me so excited! But here’s the problem I already accepted the other job as the mt travel event planner during winter…decisions decisions…well needless to say I picked the snowboard instructor position. So If any of you are in the Mammoth area and want a ski/snowboard lesson since I will be training both…ask for me :)

It’s official…I’m moving!

Mammoth mountain CA, here I come! So for those who don’t know I’ve been applying to jobs all over…mainly mountain towns so I can get use out of my favorite sport …snowboarding. Well as of Friday I got a call back from Mammoth Mt resort for a position I applied for several weeks ago to be their new event/travel coordinator for guest arriving to the Mt. After the weekend to think it over with close friends and family I have decided to say yes…a big thanks to my Nana for her positive words. <3 that lady! So here I begin to start another chapter and adventure in my life…as of Sept 21st I will be a new resident of Mammoth Mt.

Lucky for me I have been going to Mammoth since the age of 2. For me this place has always been my home away from. My grandparents have a place near the town but unfortunately I wont be staying there so off I go this weekend to apt hunt and it just so happens this weekend in Mammoth is the BEER and BLUES PALOOZA…shucks right? Looks like a frosty beverage and festival shenanigans are in order while I’m there. :)

Must see Flicks according to me…

So I have been a bit of a movie nerd this last week since my brother has been back in town. I think we have rented over 7 movies this week alone. Can we say nerd alert? Out of the seven the one I thought I would like the least I ended up liking the most. It’s called “Remember Me”. It  stars Robert Pattinson (yes the Twilight MC Dreamy Vampire). Truth be told here the only reason I even rented Remember Me was because Robert Pattinson was in it. I knew nothing about the movie other than I find Robert Pattinson (aka Edward Cullen) drop dead GORGEOUS.  But THANK GOD I rented it. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. So if you’re looking for a lazy night in do your self a favor and rent it. Yes even the guys reading this should rent it. It’s not a chick flick…although it holds a love story in it…its about life and the things we take for granted. I would love to tell you more but I think the less you know the better. Trust me you wont regret your rental I PROMISE the ending is heart stopping.

Now yesterday my brother and I were getting lunch and decided to go see Inception. Again…another great movie. It’s a get your mind going kind of movie. Very interesting too.  Again don’t let too many people tell you what it’s about, I think its best knowing little about it and seeing where your mind takes you. Let me know what you think!

To end the night me and some of the girls got together @ e-bar for some drinks and dinner where we had interesting conversations that were brought up when Caroline pulled out her Iphone and showed us all her “new apps”.Did you know they have “Sex Facts” on an App for i-phones? HILARIOUS! try it out! It gave us a good laugh. Hope everyone is having a great week…its almost the weekend! If your like me the weekend starts tonight! Love having Fridays off :)
